I’ve got BPD, so I have to do DBT

The following is a song written by F, a service user on Alvaston Ward at Cygnet Hospital Derby.

Things got hard in the community,
It started getting worse and I just wanted to be free
I was self harming and getting into trouble
Oh my god, it just made me feel more horrible

IVE GOT BPD SO I HAVE TO DO DBT
IVE GOT BPD SO I HAVE TO DO DBT

I got diagnosed with BPD so I have to do DBT
I wanted to understand, someone tell me
What should I do, someone help me
I never got the right help for a very long time
They looked down on me at the time, listen to me as I rhyme

IVE GOT BPD SO I HAVE TO DO DBT
IVE GOT BPD SO I HAVE TO DO DBT

Could you guess how much pain I was in
To make me hurt myself and feel physical pain

IVE GOT BPD SO I HAVE TO DO DBT
IVE GOT BPD SO I HAVE TO DO DBT

I was lost in self harming and impulsive behaviour
Knowing more about it will be my saviour
The media should carry on bringing awareness, that would be fairness.

IVE GOT BPD SO I HAVE TO DO DBT
IVE GOT BPD SO I HAVE TO DO DBT

No Decision Without Me - A My Shared Pathway song

To celebrate the launch of the first My Shared Pathway DVD, one of the service users involved in the project wrote this great song that really captures the spirit of My Shared Pathway: that people should have the opportunity to be fully involved in their care and in the delivery of secure services. The song is really positive about having a real recovery focus to our stay in hospital and I'm sure you'll agree it's also a very catchy tune!

Thinking Positive On Recovery

The following lyrics were written by David, a service user at Cygnet Hospital Derby. David wrote these words to help other people who might not be feeling too positive about their situation in hospital and to hold out hope for the future.

I used to focus on the negatives but that made me really unwell
The only way forward I’m going is to help others as well
Now I am at Cygnet, I want to help others like you
And whilst I am doing that it’s helping me too.
So let’s focus on the positives together to make us all well
Even though I thought it was only a short spell
But now I know my journey can make me well
So all I can say to you is lets be positive
Just you and me
Positive! Positive!
Anybody can be
Just walk with me hand in hand
Cause don’t you worry cause we got a plan
So let’s focus on working with the plan and think positive for the life to come
And stop thinking of the negatives from now if you can
As it will help you so much
